Episode 23 - We Sally Forth with Francesco PDF Print E-mail

Francesco Marciuliano author of 'Sally Forth' mixes it up with us with us on this show.

SF

Warning: the following links are hysterical, but not all that kid-friendly.

It's a pretty silly, fun, crazy interview and we even get to talk to a real stand up comic, when the lovely Sara Benincasa drops in to Francesco's apartment to say hi. Sara actually comes to this guys house! (for love)

'Ces is a great interview, very funny, and he lets us in on the legacy of Sally Forth and what it's like from a writer's perspective to collaborate with an artist on a strip. He has his own blog, Francesco Explains It All.

A few years ago, he wrote and drew the comic strip Medium Large, which he plans to revive soon. He also writes the blog/performance series Conversations with Dad. He's a very funny writer, go read this stuff and see!

Our web comic Theater is from the Nov. 8th Pinkerton by Mike Witmer.

Our web comic pick of the week is Mongrels by Stevie Schulz.

As my good friend Bono might say, "fookin' brilliant." Ces was a blast to talk to, and just reaffirms my belief that in general, there's no folk like comic folk. I have been enjoying "Sally Forth" more and more over the years, and have come to really enjoy the quirky sense of humor that Ces obviously brings to the strip. I think the strip takes some unnecessary heat out there...take a read if you haven't lately and see the work of a really funny writer.

Sweet Jesus, my accent. Still, thank you very, very much for having me on your show!

No...WE thank you. And Fred Bassett thanks you.

Thank you for letting me talk on your show, sirs! I am now scared of Ces effing that cartoon dog...yet at the same time, weirdly turned on? Maybe I need to go back to therapy.

What a great interview. Ces is a funny guy.

I love the new 'Inside the Cartoonist's Studio 5 Questions' segment.

Nice work guys.

avatar I dig the 5 questions.

Another podcast I listen to does something similar with 10 or 15 questions, where the person being interviewed has to answer them as fast as they can. One of those subconscious game things.

Groovy show~

I'm bummed that another podcast does this. Completely bummed.

Yeah...I felt the same way when I found out there was another guy out there who draws a strip about a tree.

You guys put your own personality into the segment and make it fun. The James Lipton impression was part of that (hilarious). Even if you don't keep doing the impression the segment is great.

I mean, how else would we have found out Ces wants to do Fred Bassett?

Justin:

I almost used your censored Fred Bassett as my MySpace profile pic. Then I thought, "Man, wouldn't THAT be a red flag..."

Oh yeah! That would have been really funny, but I was subconsciously ducking while I was posting it here. Posting it on MySpace would have been disastrous for a syndicated cartoonist.
Since it took 4 days for anyone to comment on it, I was even starting to get paranoid.
But thanks for the notion.

avatar Uh oh... didn't mean for you guys or anyone to feel bad about the question thing. The show I was referring to that has been doing "set number of questions time" is of a completely different genre and host make up. I was just thinking about how, while the format might be similar, the results are completely from this show and any other show are different.
