Hi folks,
I got some emails from people askin', "When's the new show?"
Well, it's coming. Sorry. "Don't hate us, it's just a hiatus."
But here's a thread to keep the questions coming. You have questions for us post 'em here. Hey, maybe we can get some subject fodder for the next show from you folks along the way.
We'll be back in a few days.
Thanks and keep listening.
Justin

|24.23.224.xxx |2007-07-03 03:57:03 AnonymousThanks Isaac.
A forum sounds great. One of us really must get on that immediately.
Uh.... yeah, like,... uh... *sigh*.
Nobody has the time, dude. When/if we ever do, we definitely will, it seems like the best things we could possibly do.
I actually might be able to sneak in some time to do that at work if it doesn't take long but I don't know how to do it. I'm quite old and not very knowledgeable about such things. R2 on the other hand here is...
(Man, WTF am I saying???)
Anyway, I'm game. Te...

I think I currently draw the biggest comic, possibly the biggest in history. My panels are all 7-8 inches high, and the widths vary depending on panels...but each strip clocks in at about 7 inches wide by about 24 inches...that's a monster strip. I end up scanning 4 pieces of paper per strip.
Ya, lets get anotehr show done and get a forum up...jesus...

I sometimes (always) say stupid things without realizing that people may not know I am joking or aware of circumstance. You 3 take your time and just know your fans are waiting. I know these things take time...In short...I am an idiot.

|24.97.30.xxx |2007-07-04 10:44:20 geoff.munnWhy exactly has no one made a "sarcasm" font yet? It would come in so handy.

|72.223.46.xxx |2007-07-06 19:36:41 jim tierney - sarcasmI completely agree... What does sarcasm look like? I think maybe top-heavy letters... maybe stretched out a bit.

|70.95.253.xxx |2007-07-06 20:01:06 AnonymousY'know, when I first started chatting on line years ago, I found my particular sense of cynical humor didn't exactly translate to being read. (I usually hear Douglas Adams in my head when I write, so everything has that sort of 'don't take me seriously' tone.) That's why I reluctantly started using those #$@!% emoticons...
It just made things easier...it's lazy writing, but I still refuse to do things like "how r u?" Good gravy, I hate that. Still, sarcasm font is a great...

I think us cartoonists are always worried about what we say and how it will affect others and how it might come back and bite us in the ass.
I agree. I'm stocked about doing another show and getting some forums up. booda

|70.95.253.xxx |2007-07-04 11:31:25 Tom - PanelsMy strip (when it's updated once a month, apparently) is a panel, and I work in an area about 6" wide X 7" high...I think I measured a "Far Side" and doubled the print size. I like working big so I can get detail and have some space to work, but sometimes that can be a little daunting, too. I don't think layout is one of my great skills, and it's something I should put more time and effort into. I am kicking around a new 4-panel strip idea, because I really want to get int...

Sorry, I'm not well versed in creating forums. I know there are programs pretty much ready to go, you just have to set up your topics and such, but there are some programs who have big security holes, at least that's what I've heard.
I know Brian has a forum on his Mission Deep site, so he's got some technical knowledge there. But I'm sure he's really busy.
Anyway, thanks...

|Administrator |2007-07-05 08:09:03 justjoustQuote:I'm just trying to get a handle on what size is good for creating a strip at.
It's whatever size you feel comfortable working in. It depends on the details of your artwork and stuff. I'd say, take a measurement of your doodles, stuff you draw when you're goofing around, or on the phone and stuff. Measure a character you're happy with, you'll find that you commonly draw at a certain general height. Then make your frame a third more of that-to twice as high. That'll give you a good gener...

|217.129.226.xxx |2007-07-07 08:50:41 Carlos Leituga - adding to what justin saidAnd I advise you to avoid square panels. Try taller ones so that you can add the speech above the characters.
I really like this podcast and I really hope you guys use it to support new webcomics.
Normally there aren't many artists that share their experience.
One of the things about doing a free of charge work is to have someone tell us that they liked it.
Waiting for the next one...

|Administrator |2007-07-07 14:49:02 justjoust - To Carlos...Carlos, I just looked up your strip.
Funny stuff man, really good. I especially like when you personify inanimate objects. Your color work is really well done too. My favorite strip of yours that I saw was called: Stairway To Heaven, No Ramp.
Very funny.
Hey everybody, go check out Carlos' comic!

|Administrator |2007-07-08 13:04:41 justjoust - It's done! The new show is done. It's been recorded and awaiting one final touch-up. Hopefully you will hear it tomorrow.
As for listening to EXTRALIFE RADIO, good for you. You should also listen to Scott Johnson's DIARY OF A CARTOONIST, that's pretty good too. My favorite podcasts are 1:RING OF FIRE, 2:EXTRALIFE RADIO, and 3: the Jonathan Brandmeier weekly podcast.
They're great to listen too as well.
See, you can't make me feel bad and pressure me with that because I don't believe in competition. I h...

|70.95.253.xxx |2007-07-08 18:45:22 tom racineOf course, how good COULD it be without the anchoring influence of me there, holding those other two poor saps together? Who could they possibly get to replace ME? (Other than a trained orangutan, of course...or a chicken that randomly pecks out responses on a computer.) Can't wait to hear the 'cast, boys...it better not be TOO good, or it'll be obvious that the one of us with the least hair has been holding us back!

|Administrator |2007-07-08 20:28:39 justjoust - Hey Claudius...Hi Claudius,
We know that. Believe me when I tell you that last week's absence could not have been avoided. Personal stuff. I'll leave it to the parties involved whether or not it's worth explaining to you. I hope that you can understand that sometimes some things are just more important than a podcast.
But if that isn't a good enough explanation you are perfectly welcome to stop listening.
I would hope that you won't, but just so you know, you are welcome.

|Administrator |2007-07-08 20:47:31 tracine - I, TomIt is a fact that consistency is important...it's hard to keep people listening if you don't keep the product coming. For example, I am a big fan of "Alien Loves Predator"...I think it's brilliantly written, and if you go back to the beginning of the archive and follow it, it's hilarious. However, he's obviously got things going on in his life that have slowed him up, and his postings have almost stopped. It's too bad, because I really like his stuff, but at the same time, as a web...

After hearing the shows I e-mailed every webcomic artist I visit to say how good their work is and how much they've lighten up my days.
Only got one response, but it came with a compliment for my own comic too! weeeee
Claudius is kind of right... I used to visit VGCats weekly, now I rarely remember to go there.
And when there's no new comic, I get really upset, because Scott lives/or used to live from the income of the comic.
Man that ticks me off...

As for the questions, why don't you guys start a forum? I'm guessing that you guys just haven't gotten around to it yet. But if it isn't something that has come up, consider it. Blogs are cool, but I just think that more information can be exchanged more easily and readily in a forum. If you get enough listeners participating then they'll post interesting stuff and maybe some of your show prep work will be don...
